TeenQuest Applications are Available!

TeenQuest is a pre-employability leadership training that is offered to Genesee County students. Students must be 14-18 years old and be in 9th-12th grade. Successful completion of this training program will be your entry to apply to the 2017 Summer Youth Initiative Job Fair and access to other employment opportunities throughout the year. Many students who have completed this program have received summer jobs!

For more information visit http://www.flintandgenesee.org/learn/teenquest/ or visit the East or West Career Resource Center (CRC). Applications are available outside of each of the CRC offices and can be completed and turned back in to the CRC office.

DON'T FORGET TO DOCUMENT YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS

Have you done any volunteer work this summer?? If so, make sure to turn your volunteer hours in to the Career Resource Center. To turn your hours in, click here, and fill out/submit the form that opens up. If you have any questions or would rather turn your hours using a paper form, please stop by the CRC at East Campus.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Accumulating 100 or more hours in a school year makes you eligible for a Presidential Volunteer Service Award and receiving two Presidential Awards during high school makes you eligible for a volunteer medal to wear at graduation.

ARE YOU A MAN 18 YEARS OLD OR TURNING 18?

If so, you must register for Selective Service, a government agency whose job is to provide untrained manpower for the Armed Forces if there is a national emergency.  Under federal law, virtually all men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday.  However, the Selective Service System now accepts early submission of registration information by 17 year olds and holds that information until they turn 18.

For more information on Selective Service and how to register, visit https://www.sss.gov/default.htm.

Career Planning and EDPs

In the 21st century, unlimited opportunities in education, training and careers await your child.  To help him/her make responsible and informed decisions about the future, the Grand Blanc Community School District has integrated career exploration and educational planning into your child’s curriculum.

As part of this process, all 8th-12th graders create and update their electronic Educational Development Plan (EDP) using an online program, Career Cruising (www.careercruising.com).

Each year your child will update his/her career goals, interests, skills and educational plans within his/her EDP.  Your support throughout this process is imperative.  Working together we will help your child discover answers to the key questions:  “Who Am I?”, “Where Am I Going?”, and “How Am I Going to Get There?”

To access Career Cruising:
  • Visit the Career Cruising website at: www.careercruising.com
  • Enter your child’s EDP username and password in the login area at the top and click “Login”.
    • EDP Username: grbl-student id (i.e. grbl-012678)
    • EDP Password:  edpstudentid  (i.e. edp012678 )

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
