Career & Technical Education
Career & Technical Education
Grand Blanc Community Schools strives to prepare our students to be college and career ready upon high school graduation. Career & Technical Education (CTE) is just one of the many avenues that we offer to provide our students with the skills and experience necessary for a successful transition into post-secondary education or the world of work. Grand Blanc CTE offers a wide variety of industry based program experiences with specific job skill training that gives our students a distinct advantage when entering the workforce or preparing for their future careers through college/universities.

Career Planning and EDPs

In the 21st century, unlimited opportunities in education, training and careers await your child.  To help him/her make responsible and informed decisions about the future, the Grand Blanc Community School District has integrated career exploration and educational planning into your child’s curriculum.

As part of this process, all 8th-12th graders create and update their electronic Educational Development Plan (EDP) using an online program, Career Cruising (www.careercruising.com).

Each year your child will update his/her career goals, interests, skills and educational plans within his/her EDP.  Your support throughout this process is imperative.  Working together we will help your child discover answers to the key questions:  “Who Am I?”, “Where Am I Going?”, and “How Am I Going to Get There?”

To access Career Cruising:
  • Visit the Career Cruising website at: www.careercruising.com
  • Enter your child’s EDP username and password in the login area at the top and click “Login”.
    • EDP Username: grbl-student id (i.e. grbl-012678)
    • EDP Password:  edpstudentid  (i.e. edp012678 )

Students in state approved CTE programs such as , Automotive, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction, Education, Finance, Health, Marketing, Mechanical Drafting/Engineering, Radio & TV Broadcasting and many others have an opportunity to earn articulated college credit.  Articulation is a process where students can earn college credit for demonstrating skills and competencies through their high school class.

Students must meet certain guidelines for completion of the class according to each college articulation agreement.  Most of these expectations revolve around achieving an 80% or better and a teacher recommendation but they are specific to the college partnering with the high school program.

How does this help a student?  The student can then take their articulated credit with them to that college and continue the pursuit of their related career choice.  This allows the student to advance their degree process through articulation while saving on tuition and fees.

For a list of state wide articulation agreements and more information, you can visit the Michigan Department of Education or by following this link:  http://www.michigan.gov/mde/ and choosing “MDE Office”, and then selecting Career and Technical Education.  You will see a resource on the left titled “Statewide Articulation”.
